Where do they go?
Have you ever wondered what happens to our girls when they get too old to breed?
If they don't pass OFA AND CERF? If one comes along that just doesn't
enjoy being a mom? Well, I asked myself this question a couple of years ago when
my foundation bitch started getting up in years. How was I going to keep them
all, give them the Love and Attention they deserve and, at the same time, work
with and train new pups.
Then God sent us the answer in a very special couple, Bob and Billie Carlson.
They approached us one day about adopting an older, trained dog that Billie
could put through obedience training and, hopefully, get accepted into the
"Animal Assisted Therapy Program". We had a female, Jordan, that had whelped two
litters and had done a great job taking care of her pups, but just didn't really
LOVE being a mom. So we decided to have her spayed and placed her with the
Carlsons. This was not an easy task for us, as we get very attached to our furry
friends. All our pups have been raised in our home and then get to take turns
coming in periodically, therefore, reinforcing their initial training and giving
them some one-on-one time with us. Jordan had spent most of her days and all of
her nights in the house with my mom, Clay, so saying Good-bye and watching her
leave was heartbreaking to say the least! But it didn't take us long to see we
had done what was best for Jordan.
It was at this point that I promised my girls
they would be placed in a home where they would be loved and spoiled the way
they deserve to be! Last fall I kept this promise to my Gherrster (Bagherra). I
bawled like a baby when I left her at her new home and my heart still longs for
her at times, but I know she's getting the full attention she deserves.
